Literary Agents

It is not true that literary agents are never interested in new or difficult work, or the work of young dramatists. In the first place, to ignore new talent makes no commercial sense - for it is meeting the demands of a market which is often voracious in its consumption of new writers which is the rationale of any agency - good or bad.

Along with basic guidelines, we have tried to give a sense of the industry as seen from the agents’ point of view.

Areas covered include:

Agents and the market for new work
Getting an Agent
Sending Unsolicited scripts
Inviting agents to a performance
The letter of agreement

The research for this information includes interviews with representatives from several of the agencies. The aim is to help writers avoid much wasted time, money and effort by being more methodical and informed in their dealings with literary agents. It is not intended to be "a step-by-step" guide to obtaining an agent.
