What should I include when sending a script?

When sending a script to any potential producer:
  • Ensure that you have read the company's guidelines for submission by going to the information here or on their website
  • Remember to include a covering letter and a stamped self-addressed envelope for the script's return (if you don't want the script returned, indicate so in the letter)
  • Ensure that your script is typed clearly
  • A CV (although not essential it gives the producer some context)

Some writers include with their submission script reports they have previously received on the work. Do bear in mind that this will usually be of limited interest to another theatre who will be looking at the work from the point of view of its own artistic policy.

Remember to check out what a particular producer requires before sending any script to them. Think carefully about whether your work is suitable for them in the most basic sense (eg. if they are a children's company, is your play right for a children's audience?).
